CONSTRAIN MOTH SPRAY

Sale price£34.95

The moth treatment conservators use to protect museum textile collections — made for the home.

Constrain is a water-based residual spray for controlling clothes moths and other textile pests. It is applied to the storage space itself — the inside of a wardrobe, drawer or chest — where it leaves an invisible protective barrier that stops moths settling and breeding.

Developed for use in museums, archives and historic houses, it is odourless once dry and non-staining. It treats the space, not the fabric — never spray it directly onto a garment.

What makes it different

Most household moth products either smell strongly and do little (cedar, lavender, ultrasonic plug-ins) or rely on toxic naphthalene mothballs that taint everything they touch. Constrain takes the conservation approach instead.

It is a water-based insecticide developed specifically for treating the spaces textiles are stored in. Sprayed onto an empty, clean wardrobe or drawer and left to dry, it leaves a residual barrier on the surfaces where moths land — without the smell, residue or staining of older products. It is the same treatment used to protect permanent collections in museums and historic houses.

The golden rule: treat the storage space, never the garment. Spray the back, sides, shelves and corners of an empty wardrobe, let it dry fully, then return your clothes.

How to use

Empty the wardrobe or drawer and vacuum it thoroughly. Shake the bottle, then spray a light, even mist over the back, sides, base, shelves and corners — the surfaces where moths land. Let it dry completely before putting anything back, and re-treat at the start of each storage season. Always spray the space, not the clothes.
