LEATHER CLEANER

Sale price£23.50

Clean first. Then feed.

Dust and grime settle into the grain of leather and dull it — and anything left on the surface gets worked in by the conditioner that follows. Leather Cleaner lifts it off gently: a surface cleaner that is safe on any leather in good condition, aniline included, and will not change its colour.

Nothing to mix. Spray a little onto a soft cloth, wipe, and move on to conditioning. Made for the things you cannot take off and wash — sofas, chairs, car seats, bags and jackets. A 236ml spray bottle. Not for suede or nubuck; that is what Suede Saver is for.

What makes it different

Most leather cleaners are either too strong — detergents meant for soaking and rinsing — or too vague about what they are safe on. This one was made for the in-between: leather that is in good condition and simply dirty, on things that cannot be taken off and washed.

It is gentle enough for aniline leather, the most absorbent and easily marked finish there is, and it will not discolour what it touches. There is nothing to mix or dilute. A damp cloth, a light hand, and the surface is clean and ready for conditioning.

Cleaning is the step most people skip. Dust and body oils left on leather are pressed into the grain by whatever conditioner follows, where they dull the finish and feed the slow wear you were trying to prevent. Ten minutes with a cloth first is the difference.

How to use

Dampen a clean, soft cloth with a little cleaner — spray onto the cloth rather than the leather — and wipe gently across the surface, working in sections. Let it dry, then follow with a conditioner. Test a discreet area first on anything precious.

Why conservators clean first

Dirt left on leather is dirt pressed into leather. This is the gentle first step.

Gentle

Safe on all leather in good condition, including aniline. Will not strip the finish or shift the colour.

Simple

No mixing, no rinsing. Spray onto a cloth, wipe, let dry.

The first step

Clears dust, grime and light marks so the conditioner that follows goes into clean grain, not over dirt.
