DEHYPON LS 54 - WOOL & CASHMERE DETERGENT

Sale price£15.00

The wash conservators reach for when an ordinary detergent simply won't do.

Available in 250ml bottle.

Our Wool & Cashmere Wash is Dehypon LS 54 — a pure, non-ionic conservation detergent used by textile conservators to wet-clean historic garments and museum textiles. It lifts away the body oils, perspiration and residue that attract moths and dull delicate fibres, then rinses away completely, leaving nothing behind.

No enzymes, no optical brighteners, no fragrance, no dyes — just gentle, thorough cleaning that protects the structure of cashmere, wool, silk and other fine natural fibres.

What makes it different

Most high-street wool washes contain enzymes, optical brighteners or fragrance — additives that cling to fibres, build up over time, and can weaken delicate protein fibres like cashmere and silk.

Dehypon LS 54 is different. It is a single, pure non-ionic surfactant (a C12–15 fatty alcohol derivative) chosen by conservators for textile wet-cleaning because it cleans effectively at very low concentrations, foams little, and rinses out completely. It is pH-neutral, readily biodegradable, and leaves no residue behind in the fibre.

A little goes a long way — a few millilitres in a basin of cool water is enough to clean a jumper.

How to use

Add a few millilitres to a basin of cool water (around 3ml per litre) and gently move the suds through the garment — don't rub or wring. Rinse twice in clean cool water, press the excess out between two towels, and dry flat, away from direct heat and sun.
